what a lovely day ... when YOU came into my life

A good reputation :)
I'm sure that some of you would have already known what you'll want to be when you grow up, I know there's quite a few girls who aspire to be teachers, which is really very good
I once talked to a SMSS girl who has already graduated, she said she'll like to be an archaeologist.
I laughed my heads off when my sister (eunice) told me that this, she said that she would want to be mature when she grows up.
I told her that what she said is very good and very true, that in life, it's not just about getting the education and qualifications to excel in any job, we would also need to mature emotionally and spiritually.
I remember a clinical psychologist who works in San Francisco, that often it is IQ which will give us the job but it's the EQ (emotional quotient) that will help us get promoted and excel in our work,

My childhood ambition was to be a fighter pilot, not just any kind of pilot, not those commercial airlines pilots that goes, good morning ladies and gentlemen, welcome to orange airline, we're now flying at 6000 feet above sea level, things like that. It's got be FIGHTER pilot. The kind that goes (gesture plane turning a few rounds)..
Today I'll like to tell you about this fighter pilot, called Butch O' Hare, who did a tremendously brave thing during World World II
Butch O'Hare was a fighter pilot who was assigned to an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific.
One day his entire team was sent on a mission. After he was airborne (meaning already flying in the skies), he looked at his fuel gauge and realized that someone had forgotten to top off his fuel tank. He would not have enough fuel to complete his mission and get back to his ship. His flight leader told him to return to the carrier. Reluctantly he dropped out of formation and headed back to the fleet.
As he was returning to the mothership, he saw something that turned his blood cold. A team of Japanese Zeroes (figher planes) were speeding their way toward the American fleet.
The American fighters were all gone on the assignment and the fleet was all but defenseless. O'Hare couldn't reach his teammates and bring them back in time to save the fleet. Nor, could he warn the fleet of the approaching danger. There was only one thing to do. He must somehow divert them from the fleet.
Laying aside all thoughts of personal safety, he dove into the formation of Japanese planes. He attacked one surprised enemy plane, one after another.
Butch weaned in and out of the now broken formation and fired at as many planes as possible until finally all his ammunition was spent. Undaunted, he continued the assault. He dove at the Zeroes, trying to at least clip off a wing or tail, in hopes of damaging as many enemy planes as possible and rendering them unfit to fly. He was desperate to do anything he could to keep them from reaching the American ships.
Finally, the exasperated Japanese team took off in another direction. Deeply relieved, Butch O'Hare and his tattered fighter went back to the carrier. Upon arrival he reported and related the event surrounding his return. The film from the camera mounted on his plane told the tale. It showed the extent of Butch's daring attempt to protect his fleet. He was recognized as a hero and given one of the nation's highest military honors.
And today, O'Hare Airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man.

The Scriptures which I just read teaches us how to have a good reputation. It is important to have a good one,
O'Hare earned a good reputation, so how's yours?
The bible shows us that a good name is important and that we need God's help to get a good reputation.
If we choose to let God's Spirit enable us to live a godly life, our names will have a good reputation attached to them. People who come in contact with us will have good memories of us. They will know they can trust us. They will feel like their lives were blessed because of a friendship with us.
The flip side is that if we choose to not live under the control of God's Spirit within us, our names will have a lousy reputation attached to them. In fact, today's scripture says that our names will be rotten. If we are self-centered, two-faced, or dishonest, the time will come when we realize that we don't have a good reputation. Others will not trust us and we'll find ourselves living a pretty lonely life without friends.
Let's all work towards a good name, to be mature when we all grow up.
Let's pray. (Exercise good judgement and wisdom, Good reputation that glorifies God's name)

It has been 2 hectic weeks :) shuffling between work in SJCp/SMSS, TTC lectures/field attachments, seminars n home stuff
think it's really God's mercy and grace
had wet McChicken for lunch yesterday! haa.. Jolene n JK braved the heavy rain to bring back $2 burger from serene centre .. haa.. felt so touched - btw, to all pilots, Jolene claimed that she's a flying monkey.. so watch out for flying malaus *diow*
for field education, I've been attending 2 different Lutheran churches (Jurong Christian Church n Queenstown Lutheran Church - where Stacy, Steffi n Joy are *yay*) - had been a great experience, seeing the different lithurgy :) was particularly touched by the traditional services.. it kind of make me reflect more.. like more God focused and Christ-centred Yippeeeee
Will be visiting the Presbyterian Churches next.. heeeee ..
by the way, St. John's Chapel and St. Andrew's Cathedral will be the 2 Anglican churches I'm visiting... ha.. hey! I'm visiting my OWN church in for field attachment.. hmmm.. waaaaa.. *sillyness*
Crisis Intervention Seminar
The Crisis Intervention Seminar (7 & 8 Jul 2005) was really great :) I learnt soooooo much! I'm so glad I went for it :> so relevant to the ministry.. if anyone would wanna know more, please approach me. I deliberately kept my notes very neat and tidy so that I can pass it on to Bernard.. heeee
Met up with Dot, JK and Susu back in CF after the Crisis Intervention Seminar (8 Jul) and went to Potong Pasir with them to attend a wake. Lord, i ask of you to continue to grant our dear friend the strength, for Your comfort to be with her :) keep her safe and sound.. Help her know that You're real n mighty
oh i must tell you this, my heart "melted" (!!!) on the 8 Jul 2005.. Susu, KJ n Dot can testify how zany i was that day.. arhh.. too private le, will not blog.. if you wanna know, just ask me ..

yippee! yahui is happy cos she got a sticker from her lecturer for her greek test! lalala... back to kindergarten days... maybe next time my greek lecturer will draw me stars.. heee

TTC orientation
in the midst of orientation now :)
having a long break before the next meeting, so taking a minute or two posting hee..
Things have been great, in fact i just took an english oral test.. haa..
the examiner said that i wun needing any oral classes.. yay :)
oh ya, i went to send Rachel and Sheena off to Taiwan this morning.. left the house at 5:45am! Praise God Bert gave me a ride, together with Shirleen and Eeeenoch

everything has been a whirlwind!
someone asked how everything's done and i replied only by God's grace and doing one thing at a time :)
Praise God for His sustaining strength
elizabeth (the very very shy one) gave me a CD (for my bday) based on the theme of Christ's Passion.. very moving and causes one to be really reflective as you listen to it.. ha .. a change from the past months of planetshakers, sonicflood, DC talk.. ha :) - thanks Elizabeth
received 2 yoyo-ma cds for my bday presents! yay - wa, totally cool - thanks auntie eileen, jos, gloria n my favourite sister, eunice.
(jos, by the way, everyone in my house has been abusing the panda u gave eunice.. ha.. we kinda like bounce it off the wall - really fun *grin* - we gave it a name too! ri-anne.. )
Bernard, Liping and Vincent gave a hand-massager for my constant shoulder-ache.. haa.. yay
SMSS CF Bangkok Mission Trip
there's so much to say abt this trip.. we served mainly in the children's ministry/outreaches, namely, rainbowland children developmental centre, suan pleu slums, the children who were abandoned and the children who are terminally-ill at chulalongkorn red cross hospital, and the children with special needs at Christian care foundation for Children with Disabilities.
at RCDC, the team (ruying, brenda, juanita, rina, susu, jacinth, jamie, wei juan, bernard n myself) did skits (walls of jericho, the lost son and david & goliath), songs, and helped as teacher-aids.
at the other places, we sang thai and english songs, taught them the songs, and also played and talked to them.
it's quite an experience being in contact with a vast spectrum of the kind of children (from very blessed to being abandoned and unwanted) within 6 days - Lord, suffering children are safe in your hands, there is none like You
The coming week
will be at TTC orientation next week - 4-8 july 2005 but will be ponning for 2 days to go for a Crisis Intervention Seminar (dr Melvin Wong)
Sonic Edge will be coming for SMSS Chapel to publicise Sonic Fest on the 8th July 2005
a Vision i had
Shared this during net and cell (the dover one) that on thursday night, just before i slept, i saw this vision of a double-edged sword (the LOTR type), very beautiful and sharp but it was kept in the freezer compartment of a fridge.
Was really stunned when i saw that. almost immediately, i went to spend more time reading the word and was brought to Eph's passage on the armour of God - SWORD of the Spirit which is the WORD of GOD! slpt only at 2am..
I continued reading 2 Kings (1-8) about the life of Elisha (so sensitive to the needs of people ard him) and also on Jehu :)
when sharing about Jehu during net yesterday, someone mentioned that she too was reading 2 kings but was rushing thru it cos she thot it was tooo boring..
she mentioned that after the teaching on Jehu's zeal and later folly, she has a different mentality about the OT
- that it's really interesting and so much to learn from it..
Praise God - LORD your word is ever so sharp and it convicts us! THANKS! :)
