vincent's away to brunei and he called back today.
he was extremely sad to break the news that his platoon commander (captain ho si qiu) collapsed and died in the safra half-marathon run this morning.

he's very close to this captain.
according to vincent, he'll always give vincent a lift to camp whenever he stays over at Grace's in sembawang.

i can imagine vincent's shock and sadness; and the fact that he can't attend his wake because he'll be back only on the 4th sept cos he needs to facilitate the training of the other cadets who are still training in brunei.

yet another wake up call to really treasure those who are around us

2 weeks back, arnold and joyce mentioned that vincent nga who is a houseman at a local hospital told them of a patient who was in comatose due to an industrial accident at a construction site. the patient is from china and this happened 3 months ago. and his wife, CP, flew in from china to be with him 2 months back. she has been staying in the hospital all these while.
i mentioned this to rev chang about 2 weeks back. he went with ah-xue to visit CP at the hospital. after some talking, ah-xue asked CP if she would want to accept Christ. and she said YES! wow. praise GOD.

thereafter, she came to church the following sunday.

just last week, CP's husband fell into critical condition and passed away. really sad to hear that. CP has since returned to China. And we're praying that she'll get the proper follow-up back home. She's from Hunan.

if i didn't remember wrongly, Hunan is one of China's poorest place and there are many villages which are called "AIDS villages" because a high population of the villagers are afflicted with AIDS. They got it cos they were selling blood. A packet of blood donated fetched much higher price for all the hard work slogged out in the fields; with no definite income assured.

syringes were re-used in the blood donation and as a result, many loving husbands, fathers, uncles, mothers, sons, daughters who donated blood to supplement the income or to put a child/sibling to school, were afflicted with the HIV.

i was just so appalled by this years ago when i saw a documentary about the "AIDS villages" in Hunan. another heartbreaking fact was that whilst the government are putting in the efforts to help these villagers by giving them free medical treatments at the local hospital by giving them vouchers, these villagers would rather sell the medicine purchased with the vouchers and to use the money for their family members because they were simply too poor.

sorry if today's post seems pretty depressing - it's for myself - a wake up call from whatever false realities which i'm having and to start caring and doing the right and important things.

on a brighter note...
thanksgiving - met up with KT before cell last friday for bible study. as i was waiting, she called to say that she has accidentally left her laptop in the bus. we quickly called the bus interchange to report loss but was told that it was difficult to contact the bus driver as KT wasn't able to remember the vehicle plate. we were praying all these while.
after doing all that we could, we started our bible study.
and about 25 minutes later, KT received a call from the bus interchange to say that her laptop was retrieved!

wow.. amazing.. praise GOD ..

eunice helped to make this flyer for TTC's time to chill 2 event.
i think it's very very eye-catching and inviting.

like the concept - simple and straight to the point.

i really like the fonts i chose for this flyer. the chinese characters look so ancient and rustic. totally like them

i think i'm going to try to use photoshop more often - not to just use it to edit pics but to really explore the various functions (:

took a break from studying my IBI and made this simple LJOY poster using photoshop. simple but it's a small step to using it more often. okie la.. not that fantastic but still.. A for effort. yeah

About a month ago, I met up with deqi at Great World City. After meeting up with her, i headed towards Parkmall for Thai lessons. In my blurness, I took the wrong exit but I noticed that there was a Thai lady who looked really lost standing next to glass door.
She was in Singapore for a very short business trip and was to return to Thailand the next morning. She had needed to buy a particular kind of medicine at Guardian Pharmacy. This medicine was for one of her 5 year old twins; a boy who is suffering from epilepsy. This medicine is not available in Thailand. I offered to bring her to the Guardian Pharmacy at Great World City but the medicine was not available at that branch. We were referred to the main branch at Centrepoint. We were also told that we need to have a letter verification from a local doctor. It was already 6 in the evening and there weren’t any clinics in sight. We decided to just head towards Centrepoint. As we were traveling, the lady asked if I was a Christian. When I replied that I was, she was really stunned. She shared that whenever she was in difficult situations, Christians were always around her to help her. However, she was afraid to be one because of very strong objections from her husband. I told her that I have been praying in my heart that we would get the medicine even without the doctor's letter and also encouraged her to do likewise. When we reached Guardian Pharmacy at Centrepoint, the Thai lady explained her predicament and was pleading with the pharmacist to sell her the medicine.

God heard our prayers; the pharmacist agreed to sell the medicine and had only requested for the Thai lady to produce her passport and boarding pass for recording purposes. We were really delighted. The Thai lady was so appreciative; it was really clear that she was overjoyed. After buying the medicine, the lady said that she was very convinced that God is real and has always been with her; and that when she returns to her hotel that night, she would thank God and talk to Him.

ahhh.. super amazed by GOD!!! (:
